Dee Bostic was born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island City, N.Y. Dee wanted to experience life outside the Queensbridge Projects. She joined the Air Force to pursue higher education and travel. After serving eight years and graduating from Eastern Washington University, Dee began her career as a clinical lab scientist. She spent many years as a chemistry, immunology, and hematology generalist.

After spending 16 years in Washington State, she relocated to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and later accepted a position in the microbiology laboratory at the National Institutes of Health. Dee always felt her calling was to become a writer.
